Gay Envy Ooze

October 1, 2011

Zoey Van Goey are launching a remix EP ‘Sexy Rave Eye Zooming’ at Stereo (Glasgow) tonight.

Doors 7.30pm.

It’s £8 and that includes a copy of the EP. In fact, that’s the only way you’ll be able to get one.

Apparently the wonderful GRNR is going to be some ‘live remxing’. Wish I could be there to witness the finesse.

Anyway, I did a remix for said EP.

My one is actually made from two of their songs. Different ones. From different albums. But it’s not a mashup. Don’t be daft. More like when you roll two bit’s of plasticine together. Ok, that basically makes a jobbie. Bad analogy.

The Japanese War(drobe) Effort

September 16, 2011

I recently designed a tshirt for my wee bro The Japanese War Effort.

Yonks ago, we were chatting about Benbecula Records artist Ochre.

I misremembered the name of his fantastic album Lemodie, and said Lemonode by accident.

It struck a chord with Jamie and turned up in a song on his mini-album Surrender To Summer which is now available on ridiculous multi-coloured vinyl from Song, By Toad Records.

As is the tshirt.

BUY ONE. Cover yourself up for pity’s sake.

Album Pre-orders

July 21, 2011

This post is a bit late in coming, but that’s because I’ve only just finished making up the bonus alternate ’scrapbook’ version of the album (that’s the CD-R in the photo).

The only way to get one of these is to place a pre-order for the vinyl album HERE by Monday 25th of July.

I put a lot of work into the alt version so, who knows, maybe it’ll be available again at some point between now and the end of the world, but for now, this is your only way of getting one.

I’m told pre-orders have been really healthy so I’d like to express a huge thank you to anyone who has placed an order thus far. The show of support means a lot to me and to Red Deer Club!

Here’s the poster:

MON-GLA

…and here’s the blurb:

Jonnie Common – live set feat. Peter Kelly (Moon Unit, Song Of Return, Galchen)

He’s an affiliate of Inspector Tapehead, a former member of Down the Tiny Steps, and the sorcerer behind the recent Deskjob compilation, but Glasgow’s Jonnie Common finally takes to the spotlight with Master of None, his debut album – and what a lo-fi electro-folk wonder it is. From existential casio-pop opener ‘Heir to the Throne’ to kung-fu cantata ‘Hand-Hand’, Master of None showcases Common’s vivid songwriting and production chops. The skewed-pop amble and harmonica swell of ‘Summer Is For Going Places’ is glorious; as is the sci-fi glow of ‘Photosynth’. You’ll forgive us for remarking, then, that Common is unique indeed.”
Nicola Meighan – The List (4/5)

Red Deer Club present their first album on vinyl, from no other than Jonnie Common. A summerous collection of wondrous pop oddities, coming in at just over thirty minutes, this is the debut album from one of Scotland’s finest exports. The label has been a fan of Jonnnie’s work since his ‘Down The Tiny Steps’ output. We are so proud of this limited release.

The Japanese War Effort
Ambient pop playah and one half of dream-beat combo Conquering Animal Sound, Martin Moog aka The Japanese War Effort would not miss his big bro’s album launch for all the Bru in China.

River Of Slime
Kev Sim is the elusive electronic genius behind Edinburgh art pop pranksters FOUND. He’s finally getting his act together and releasing some solo material on Glasgow blog label, Phuturelabs. Be afraid.

Double Fun DJs
Keeping it warm and creamy between live sets, the lads are under Jonnie’s specific instruction of “Nae crowd pleasers.”

UPDATE: Since there’s no Edinburgh launch, live music will end around 11pm with the Double Fun DJs continuing to the 11.30pm curfew.  This is to allow anyone coming from Edinburgh time to catch the last train. Edinburgh train tickets can be shown at the merch desk to claim a wee gift.

Tapehead 2010 Tour Diary

June 11, 2011

Back in September 2010, Inspector Tapehead went on a wee tour to promote the release of our debut album ‘Duress Code’.

We had a bloody hoot.

I made these vids at the time but couldn’t get them to upload to youtube FOR THE LIFE OF ME.

Finally they are up, thanks to the miracle of fibre optics.

Enjoy x

Found - Anti Climb Paint

June 8, 2011

FOUND are one of my favourite bands.

Their output is consistently innovative and brilliantly executed.

A few months ago, I had a dream that I was making a video with them in Cupar’s Fisher & Donaldson bakery. (The lovely family that run the bakery are FOUND uber-fans so this wasn’t a random dream-combo). The dream was mainly composed of me being stuck in a one-way supermarket carpark slip road, desperately trying to get back to ‘the set’ but still. FOUND recently made (the relevant bits of) this dream a reality with the video for their new single ‘Anti Climb Paint’.

However, the wonderful partnership of FOUND (FND) and Fisher & Donaldson (F’n'D) hasn’t stopped there because, Anti Climb Paint is being released as a CHOCOLATE 7″ RECORD. No joke.

Details of how to obtain one can be found here: http://www.chemikal.co.uk/anticlimbpaint/

I am seriously hoping that these kind of efforts by F’n'D might eventually lead to me being able to download a fudge donut. When that happens, I am finished. But I won’t care.

ANYWAY

Here’s my remix of ‘Anti Climb Paint’

Photosynth Ep

May 5, 2011

I’ve made a wee EP for my track ‘Photosynth’.

You can download half of it for free over on MY BANDCAMP PAGE

I’m only making 50 physical copies: MiniCD-R, each packaged with one of the 50 polaroids I used to make the video below. There are four tracks on the CD. These will be available to buy here, next week.

The other track free to download is a kindof accidental rework of the track ‘Maschine’ by my pals Conquering Animal Sound. If you haven’t checked them out yet, YOU SHOULD. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

‘Photosynth’ is on the debut Jonnie Common album Master Of None which, I’m very happy to announce, is being released by Red Deer Club in July.

On vinyl. I am ECSTATIC!

April 28, 2011

It’s been 3 weeks now since I launched DESKJOB and there’s been some great feedback.

Honing his multifarious craft as curator, producer and alt-pop svengali, bespectacled tech-wizard Jonnie Common has pulled a sonorous blinder with Deskjob

The List magazine - launch gig review

Jonnie Common has been about the scene for a wee while now turning his trade in various different bands and for the better of many other acts. Tonight he presents a night promoting his “not remixed” album DESKJOB which features an array of talent from across the country…

Jonnie Common has approached this project – as a collaboration and not a post-production exercise…

Free Stealing Sheep Remix

March 21, 2011

I did a remix for Stealing Sheep today.

Started at lunchtime. Emailed before dinner. And they put it up on their bandcamp page HERE just in time for an evening cuppa.

I feel like Solomon Grundy.

In other news, the DESKJOB launch gig posters arrived while I was eating breakfast. It’s been an eventful day, as ever, gauged in mealtimes.
